Assessing the Structural Integrity of Aging Overhead Cranes

Many overhead cranes remain in service several decades after their commissioning. When properly maintained, these assets can continue to operate reliably for many years. However, as they age, appropriate monitoring and assessment become essential to ensure personnel safety and maintain the reliability of industrial facilities.

Why assess the structural integrity of an overhead crane?

Over time, repeated loading can lead to the gradual deterioration of a crane’s structure. Mechanical fatigue, corrosion, deformation, and cracking are among the phenomena that can affect the structural integrity of the equipment.

A technical assessment helps identify existing or potential defects before they become critical, enabling operators to take appropriate corrective actions at an early stage.
